SAFEGUARDING
Everyone has the right to feel safe.
Open Home Living takes concerns about abuse, neglect, exploitation and unsafe situations seriously. If you are worried about yourself or somebody else, tell us. You do not need to be certain that abuse or neglect has taken place before raising a concern.
What is safeguarding?
Safeguarding means protecting a person’s right to live safely and free from abuse and neglect. Concerns can involve many different situations.
If somebody is in immediate danger
If there is an immediate threat to life or serious immediate danger, call 999.
Do not wait for an online safeguarding report to be reviewed.
Raising a concern with us
A safeguarding concern can be raised with a member of the Open Home Living team or through our safeguarding reporting route. Provide as much factual information as you can. Do not put yourself at risk trying to investigate the situation.
- Who you are concerned about
- What happened
- When and where it happened
- Who was involved
- Whether there is an immediate danger
- Any other information that may help keep the person safe
What will we do?
When we receive a safeguarding concern, our priority is safety. Depending on the circumstances, this may involve the following. We will not attempt to handle matters internally where statutory agencies need to be involved.
Considering immediate protective action
Speaking with the person affected where appropriate
Reviewing relevant information
Involving our safeguarding lead
Contacting adult safeguarding services
Contacting the police or emergency services
Working with other professionals involved
Confidentiality
We treat safeguarding information sensitively. However, we cannot promise to keep information secret where somebody may be at risk. Information may need to be shared with appropriate professionals or statutory agencies when this is necessary to protect somebody from harm.
Safeguarding concerns involving an Open Home Living employee, contractor or other person working on our behalf will also be taken seriously. They should be reported through the safeguarding route so appropriate action can be considered.
